A 65 year old man died after the bomb with which he was trying to kill his son exploded near him. The incident took place on Kashipur Road in North Kolkata at around 3.30 pm on Friday. Doctors declared the elderly Sheikh Matlab dead when the father and son were taken to R.G Kar Hospital in critical condition. His son Sheikh Nazir is undergoing treatment and is in critical condition.
According to local sources, 65-year-old Sheikh Matlab used to often return home drunk. This always caused arguments in the family. His son Sheikh Nazir works in a factory. Neighbors claim that after Sheikh Nazir returned home from work on Friday afternoon he got into an argument with his father after he saw him intoxicated.
According to police sources, when the quarrel escalated, Sheikh Matlab attacked his son with a crude bomb. Sheikh Nazir tried stopping his father but the bomb fell on the spot and exploded. The father and son were seriously injured in the blast. Locals rushed to the scene when they heard the explosion and the father-son duo was taken to a hospital in critical condition and admitted to RG Kar Hospital. Later, the doctors declared Sheikh Matlab dead.
According to police sources, Sheikh Nazir’s fingers were blown off due to the bomb blast. He has been shifted to SSKM Hospital, Kolkata for better treatment.
Cossipore police are investigating the incident. Police officials are investigating how Sheikh Matlab got hold of the bomb. Police forces searched the entire slum area to see if there were any more bombs stored there.
However, police sources claimed that no more bombs were found during the search operation. However, many years ago, Sheikh Matlab was associated with the criminal world, according to police sources.
