Chhattisgarh Ranks 1st In India For Providing Employment Under ‘MNREGA’

# More than 107 percent of the given target achieved.

# Record number of employment days provided in the state since the implementation of MNREGA, Employment of 16.07 crore man-days of employment created so far this year.

Raipur : Chhattisgarh Ranks First in the Country in terms of providing employment under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). In the current financial year 2020-21, Employment of 16 crore six lakh 84 thousand man-days has been created so far, against the target of creating 15 crore man-days of employment, as sanctioned by Government of India.

This year, a new record of providing employment for the highest number of man-days under MNREGA has been set in the state. More than 107 percent of the given target for providing employment under MNREGA has been achieved this year so far, with more than two weeks left for the completion of the financial year. Currently, MNREGA works are progressing vigorously across the state.

Chhattisgarh holds top rank in the country for achieving 107 percent of the target for implementation of MNREGA.

West Bengal holds second rank with 105 percent, Assam and Bihar hold third rank with achievement of 104-104 percent of the given target and Odisha holds fourth rank with 103 percent completion.

Since the inception of MNREGA in the year 2006-07, the state has provided employment for the maximum number of man-days this year. Ten crore 14 lakh, eight crore 86 lakh, 11 crore 99 lakh, 13 crore 86 lakh and 13 crore 62 lakh man days of employment have been provided to the needy in the last five years from the year 2015-16 to 2019-20 respectively. In the current financial year, wages of Rs 2617 crore 88 lakh have been paid to MNREGA workers from April -2020 to February -2021.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development T.S. Singhdev has congratulated departmental officers-employees and Panchayat representatives for creating this record of providing employment for maximum number of man-days to people of rural areas.

He said that despite the lock-down due to COVID-19, people in rural areas got direct employment opportunities with the preparatory being conducted work under MNREGA.

MGNREGA works have played an important role in keeping the rural economy dynamic even under the adverse circumstances. They congratulated the Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Prasanna R, MNREGA commissioner Mohammad Kaiser Abdulhaq and his team, hoping that with the awareness of the panchayat representatives and the activeness of the MNREGA team, the state will make many more achievements under MNREGA in future as well.

Bilaspur district is at the forefront in the state in terms of employment generation against the given target for current financial year i.e. more than 131 percent of the given target.

Likewise the percentage of the target achieved in other districts of Chhattisgarh is as follows:- 125 percent in Gorella-Pendra-Marwahi, 119 percent in Kanker, 118 percent in Surguja, 117 percent in Janjgir-Champa, 115-115 percent in Durg and Jashpur, 110 percent in Raigarh, 109 percent in Balod, Dantewada and 108 in Koriya, 107-107 percent in Bemetara, Kondagaon and Raipur, 106 percent in Mahasamund, 105-105 percent in Balodabazar-Bhatapara and Korba, 104-104 percent in Kabirdham, Bijapur and Mungeli, 102 percent in Gariaband, in Dhamtari and Sukma thehe target has been achieved in 101–101 percent, 100 percent in Balrampur-Ramanujganj, 98–98 percent in Rajnandgaon and Bastar, 96 percent in Surajpur and 95 percent in Narayanpur district.

Central Government had sanctioned the target of providing employment of 13.50 crore man days in the budget of year 2020-21.

In the beginning of financial year, MNREGA works were started on a large scale with the objective to provide employment in rural areas and to strengthen rural economy during lockdown. As a result 66% of the target was achieved in the first three months of the year.

In view of this progress, State Government had requested Centre to increase the given target under MNREGA from 13.5 crore man days to 15 crore man days in the current fiscal year. Considering the consistently good performance of Chhattisgarh, Union Ministry of Rural Development had sanctioned the revised target.
